The leading trade fair for processing and packaging Interpack is getting closer, and with regard to the sustainability challenges the sector is facing, the search for sustainable packaging materials is in full swing. For packaging developers, this is an exciting new field, but also one in which many questions remain unanswered. Of the many materials being promoted under the "bio" label - which are the ones offering the highest sustainability potential? Once a new material is found, developers face further challenges: Can the material run on the machines and what about disposal and recycling? And how about regulatory and legal requirements?
The live talk TIGHTLY PACKED, in preparation hosted by packaging journal, shed some light on these questions. On the panel were experts from four stakeholders in the sector: Packaging Analyst Sonja Bähr from packaging consultancy TILISCO, Managing Director Heiko Kühne by packaging manufacturer OPTIMA, Head of "Made for Recycling" Julian Thielen by dual system provider Interseroh+, and traceless CEO & Co-Founder Anne Lamp - who was bringing in our perspective of a startup on the forefront of novel material development.
