traceless ranked Nr. 1 of Germany's TOP 50 startups

Germany's start-up ranking for 2021 is official: Over 170 startup award competitions and 700+ start-ups were analysed to filter out the TOP 50 startups 2021. And we were excited to learn that from all of them, traceless got ranked as the number 1! This is the first time ever that the ranking is led by a start-up with an all-female founding team. We are very proud and happy to receive this recognition, and represent our founding location Hamburg in this prominent position!

On the occasion of the ranking, the ranking platform has invited traceless founders Johanna and Anne for an interview. In the conversation, they give insights on what founding a start-up as a female founding team meant for them, why they believe in diverse teams as a way to success, and reveal a bit their long-term future vision for traceless. "In general, Anne and I are a strong team, in that we complement each other perfectly in terms of our expertise. Anne brings the technical and sustainability background and I bring the business background. We have built a great multidisciplinary team of currently 20 people around this. That's why we're getting very positive feedback at the moment."

Johanna Baare, traceless' co-founder & COO

Indeed, the last year - in which we only celebrated our first compaany birthday after our company founding in 2020 - was a very exciting and successful year for us at traceless. With the goal to bring our innovative bio-circular material solution to market as quickly as possible, we have grown our team, built up our first pilot plant, and finalized our seed funding investment round. Parallel to that, we received a major EU grant by the European Innovation Council, and were selected for several awards - amongst others, the Falling Walls Venture Science Breakthrough of the Year 2021, the Green Alley Award, Biopolymer Innovation Award and Darboven Idee Förderpreis. Learn more about what happened in this amazing year in our virtual 2021 annual review.

About the ranking

Every year, Top 50 Start-ups evaluates well over 100 start-up competitions to determine the 50 best start-ups. According to objective criteria, they assign points from which the ranking is calculated. These include, for example, in how many start-up competitions a start-up was among the prize-winners, what place did it achieve, how much prize money was awarded, was it a regional or national start-up competition, and so on. Diversity reigns in the top 50 start-ups from 2021: founders develop apps for mental and physical health or want to create an Uber for the bulk goods industry. Others introduce children and young people to programming in a playful way.
