The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) — the EU body representing organised civil society in European policymaking — has officially adopted an own-initiative opinion on natural polymers. The opinion called “A comprehensive strategy for nature-based biodegradable materials to foster circularity and resource efficiency, strengthen the agri-food sector and scale-up the EU bioeconomy” was adopted on 29 April 2026, with 211 votes in favour.
